US Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) visited Marra’s Pharmacy in Cohoes, NY Monday to unveil a plan to combat prescription drug abuse. His plan rests on three prongs: doctor training, law enforcement and information exchange.
Medical professionals would be trained how to safely prescribe potentially addictive painkiller and how to help patients before they become dependent. The plan would also increase penalties on prescription drug-related crimes and offer funding for states prescription drug monitoring programs.
Schumer has also asked credit card companies to prevent transactions with illegal online pharmacies.
